For users under 13 years of age, the only information that is collected by the site is the following: email address, first name, and parent's (or legal guardian's) email address. A message is then promptly sent to the parent or legal guardian for two purposes: to alert the parent that his/her child is attempting to submit personal information on the web site, and to obtain permission from that parent in order for the child to proceed. Without parental consent, the child is not able to submit the information.
The parent must click on a link in the email which prompts the parent to give his/her consent and which in turn sends an email back to the child to let him/her know that he/she may proceed.
